I've begun working on my senior project. I've cleaned off my work space, and tonight after some errands, I'll be working on penciling the first page (or better the second, since I want to manually draw in the titles). It's going to be a long couple of weeks, balancing work at Hollywood (video), making time for Nikki, finding work, and getting these pencils ready for inking.
The biggest road-block so far is finding a mentor. I need to find a professional comic artist (preferably one I'm inspired by or influenced by) to be my mentor. basically, all I need them to do is look at my work that I send them as they get made, for them to say "ooh, this looks great, but I'm not sure this _____ is working in the _____ panel...". No paper work, no offical forms, just casual critique. So far, I've tried Bill Wray (www.bigblownbaby.com), Phil Foglio (www.studiofoglio.com), Stan Sakai (www.usagiyojimbo.com), and Gilbert Shelton (www.ripoffpress.com).
I'd love to get comic artists from Europe to mentor me (using translating programs to bridge the gap), but so far, finding contact information is proving difficult.
So wanna know what I'm working on?
Well, I'm gonna keep it close to my chest until the senior show, but I can offer you this: In 1776, the United States of America was born. In 1777, that baby was dying!
There's a clue on my website if yer dying for a hint...
Speaking of website; I'm shopping around for inexpensive webhosting (or at least webhosting that's reasonably priced). I don't put stock in website claims, nor stranger's suggestions (and by strangers, I mean the user testamonies- I'm suspicious of anything that the website would put up, regardless of how postitive or negative it is). So far, I've been following up InMotion Hosting, suggested by Ali. It looks good so far...
I've been listening recently to Dan Savage and Kevin Smith's respective podcasts. I think Savage is thiiiiiiis close to defining a Huckabee, sort of like he did with Santorum. It's going to be exciting, since Huckabee has a chance now that Romney is gone.
Speaking of politics, this is going to be a spectacular year for negative campaigning. Nikki would disagree with me on this issue, but I find negative tactics hilarious, especially when the tactices blow up in the candidate's face. It's payment for making foolish decisions that are no good for the country. Right now, I support Obama, and I'd like to speculate that he'd take Edwards as his running mate, though I'm not keen on Edwards for his suspicious litigating of malpractice suits...
Well, I'll continue on this later. TTFN!
